Not Gregorian Chant. Gregorian Chant is monophonic, and sung in Latin or Greek. This is polyphonic, much like the choral music of the Late Middle ages or Renaissance. Thomas Tallis and William Byrd were two well-known composers of polyphony for the Tudor court and the Anglican Church. Sam Smith, being British, and raised Anglican, is likely quite familiar with both. Music composed by both is used even today in Anglican churches, and Catholic as well, because Tallis was Catholic, and Byrd converted to Catholicism due to Tallis influence, Byrd being his pupil. As a fan of both Tallis's and Byrd's work, I sense elements of both in this song. Smith also sang in a youth choir, and probably sang pieces composed by Tallis and Byrd, who are probably the most well-known British composers of polyphony.
Not a Gregorian chant though. More like a choral piece. But I love Sharon Stone.

Beautiful. For those who love this piece I would encourage you to become familiar with the similar music of the late British composer, Sir John Tavener. Tavener died in 2013 and I would not be the least bit surprised if Smith drew inspiration from his music for Gloria.

The combination of the choir and sam's vocals broke the glass ceiling of octive on high of where sam's vocals reside. Sharon stone is the suprised beauty that complements it all. Music and art at it superb finest. Thank you sam smith/choir/sharon stone. I applaud this performance for 10-20 mintues.
